DDAVP is a generic nasal spray. His active substance is desmopressin acetate. It uses to prevent or control the frequent urination and loss of water. It uses in cases of diabetes insipidus (they are characterized by frequent urination and sleep disturbance with bed-wetting).

This medication is prescribed for using like a nasal spray, so do not swallow it or don't inject it in a mouth. Control the amount of liquid that you drink during a treatment with DDAVP - it shouldn't be too much of water during a day. The recommended dose is 0.1 to 0.4 ml(1-4 sprays) per day for adults and 0.05- 0.3 ml(1-2 sprays) per day for children between 3 months to 12 years of age, but it will be better if you consult with your doctor.

Patients with cystic fibrosis, any condition in which there is fluid and electrolyte imbalance, high blood pressure and/or coronary artery disease could take this medicine just after obligatory consultation with a doctor.

Contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to any component of this drug.

Possible side effects: nausea, headache, mild abdominal cramps, irritation of the nose, stuffy nose, or flushing; conjunctivitis (pinkeye), depression, dizziness, inability to produce tears, nostril pain, rash, swelling around the eyes, weakness, stomach or intestinal upset, fluid retention and swelling, agitation, chest pain, chills, dizziness, indigestion, insomnia, itchy or light-sensitive eyes, inflammation of the penis, pain, sleepiness, vomiting, warm feeling, pounding heartbeat, rapid heartbeat.

Avoid to drink alcohol comparing with DDAVP. Be careful, using DDAVP with drugs for increasing blood pressure (dopamine, epinephrine, ephedrine, levophed), Clofibrate, Glyburide, Epinephrine, carbamazepine, chlorpropamide, demeclocycline, water pills (diuretics) - it need a consultation with doctor.

Never take more than prescribed dose, even if you missed the one. Try to take it as soon as possible.Or, if it's too late, just skip it and take your usually dose next day in the same regularly time.

In case if you think that you could be overdosed by DDAVP you should call for medical help immediately. Symptoms of DDAVP overdose are the following: abdominal cramps, headache, flushing, or nausea.

Store at room temperature between 59-77 F (15-25 C), in a dark and dry place. Save it from children and pets. Watch the expiration date!
